About The Project

Achievement Foundation is committed to nurturing every child in an inclusive, caring environment where they can grow with confidence and pursue their dreams.

We envision a world where every child is supported to thrive, belong, and reach their full potential through compassion, creativity, and meaningful guidance.

With the generous sponsorship of Hang Kit Insurance, we are delighted to launch Project SOAR ( Support, Overcome, Achieve, Rise) .

This programme aims to equip caring and passionate individuals with the skills to design and lead group activities. Drawing on the principles and techniques of play therapy, it prepares our traines to support SEN children in developing essential social skills, emotional awareness, and self-regulation, so they can soar into a brighter future.

“When I was first given the opportunity to lead a group, I felt quite nervous and unsure of my ability to do it well. I am very grateful to Ms. Angela Man and Principal Wong for their guidance—they took the time to teach us how to communicate with young children and respond to their emotions, which gave me the confidence to step forward. At first, I wondered whether six sessions could truly make a difference. However, after completing the programme, I saw clear changes in the children’s emotional expressions through stories and activities. This showed me how meaningful and impactful the social-emotional group can be. Through this experience, I also grew personally. I learned how to respond appropriately to children’s emotions and build stronger connections with them. While there were challenges—especially when managing difficult emotions—I gained valuable skills in helping children calm down and stay engaged. I look forward to continuing to develop myself so I can support more children and help them grow with confidence and motivation.”

“It was my first time leading a group as a facilitator, and I felt both nervous and anxious. I tend to be quite direct at times, so I was worried I might unintentionally give children the wrong ideas. That said, I truly enjoyed every moment spent with them. All the sessions went smoothly, and working with Yuk Sing felt very natural and seamless. I believe this was also because the children in our group were generally manageable. The only exception was Chun Ho, who showed more intense emotional reactions. In his case, I felt I was not yet able to fully apply the techniques I had learned, and mainly relied on redirecting his attention and supporting him through transitions. Even so, I believe I did my best to give the children a relaxed and positive hour each time. As Ms. Man shared, this was truly their “me time”—a space without judgment, filled only with care and support. I also hope that these six sessions have planted small seeds in their hearts, helping them learn how to understand and manage their emotions. On the final session, I told the children I hoped to see them again after the summer. One child, said his mother had already checked but found there were no enrolment options yet. I was deeply touched to hear that. I am truly grateful to Principal Wong and Ms. Angela Man for this meaningful opportunity.”

As the program director for this Train the Trainer course, I have personally witnessed deep transformation in frontline practitioners over a short period of time. Many participants start out feeling unsure about leading small groups, worrying that they are not “therapeutic” enough or do not have sufficient professional background. Yet after several days of practical exercises and live demonstrations, they are able to apply play therapy principles and confidently plan and lead their own groups. What I am most grateful for is seeing participants learn how to respond to children with special needs through respect, acceptance and attentive listening, rather than focusing only on behaviour management. Through the course they not only receive clear processes, materials and tools, but also rediscover their original passion for walking alongside children. Each time I hear a trainee share that children are changing in areas such as emotional expression, relationships and self‑confidence, I am once again convinced that investing in equipping more “leaders of leaders” is deeply worthwhile.
